Section 1: Introduction to Commodities

  • Basics of commodities: To learn commodity trading, we will gain an in-depth understanding of commodity markets and their classification based on metal, energy and agriculture. Here, we will also understand the physical market and its value chain. Then, we will learn about the regulations of the physical market and the electronic spot exchange. After that, we will get insights into the factors affecting the prices of commodities and various markets, including forwards, futures, and exchange-traded forwards.
  • Role of Derivatives: Then we will understand the role of derivatives in this market, including an introduction to derivatives, participants, OTC & exchange-traded derivatives, futures & options, derivatives on weather, credit, insurance, energy, interest rates, and currency. Study the payoff (long, short) and the role of multiple participants, various forms of traders, and trading styles.
  • Get the Exposure of Global Exchanges: Furthermore, we will explore global exchanges, the evolution of Indian exchanges, specially NCDEX, functions, and roles of exchanges. And then we will dive into the pricing, the role of speculators and arbitrageurs in price discovery, and aspects of clearing, settlement, and market surveillance.
  • Pricing of Derivatives: Then we will explore the determinants of forward and futures price, introduction to investment and consumption assets, convenience yield, cost of carry and its impact, the concept of convergence, and backwardation & contango. Along with that we will learn hedging principles, price risk management, long and short hedges, and basis risk.

Section 2: Introduction to Technical Analysis

  • The Philosophy and Rationale Behind Trading: We will start with a comprehensive understanding of the technical analysis and how the demand and supply work to determine the price of the stock. Then, we will explore the philosophy of technical analysis, various chart patterns such as line charts and candlesticks and how to identify the different trends of the market, i.e., uptrend, downtrend and sideways. Additionally, we will know the concept of price over time, volume and open interest.

And after that, we will learn the six principles of dow theory, i.e., the market discounts everything; the market has three trends: primary, secondary and minor; market trends have three phases: accumulation, public participation and distribution; averages must confirm; volumes confirm trends; trends continue unless definitive reversals come about. 
  • Reversal Patterns: Next, you will identify and understand the significance of reversal patterns, including head and shoulders, double tops and double bottoms. By understanding these reversal patterns, you can spot potential changes in price direction and make an informed decision.
  • Continuation Patterns: Then you will deep dive into the various continuation patterns like Symmetric, Ascending, and Descending Triangles, Wedges, Flags, and Pennants, along with their implications.
  • Candlestick Anatomy and Patterns: After a deep understanding of various patterns, we are now explaining candlestick charts that offer valuable insights into price movements. We will break down the anatomy of a candlestick and explore patterns like the Hammer, Hanging Man, Bullish Engulfing, Bearish Engulfing, Morning Star, and Evening Star.
