EPF Calculator - Calculate Your Provident Fund Maturity Amount
EPF, or Employee Provident Fund, is the retirement savings account most salaried employees in India build automatically through their monthly payroll. This calculator estimates what your EPF balance, sometimes just called your PF, could grow to by retirement, based on your salary, how long you have left to work, and the current interest rate. If you want retirement planning covered more broadly first, our guidebook to saving and investment is a useful starting point.
What Is EPF (Employee Provident Fund) and How Do Contributions Work?
EPF is a mandatory retirement savings scheme for salaried employees at most organisations with 20 or more staff, run by the Employees Provident Fund Organisation. Every month, a percentage of your basic salary plus dearness allowance is deducted and deposited into your EPF account, matched by an equal contribution from your employer.
The balance earns interest declared annually by EPFO, and the amount accumulated in your EPF account, along with the interest it has earned, becomes available when you retire or leave formal employment under qualifying conditions.
What Is the 12% Employee-Employer EPF Split?
Both you and your employer contribute 12% of your basic salary plus dearness allowance each month, but the two 12% portions do not end up in the same place.
Your full 12% goes into your EPF account. Your employer's 12% is split: 8.33% calculated on a wage ceiling of Rs 15,000 goes into the Employee Pension Scheme, subject to the applicable limit, and the remainder goes into your EPF account alongside your own contribution.
For example, on a basic salary of Rs 30,000, your contribution is Rs 3,600 a month. The employer's EPS portion is capped at Rs 1,250, while the remaining Rs 2,350 from the employer goes into EPF. This results in a combined EPF contribution of Rs 5,950 a month.
The EPS portion does not earn EPF interest and is tracked separately toward your eventual pension rather than your provident fund balance.
What Is the Current EPF Interest Rate?
EPFO has declared an interest rate of 8.25% for FY 2025-26, unchanged for a third consecutive year after moving up from 8.15% in FY 2022-23. The rate is set annually by EPFO's Central Board of Trustees and confirmed by the government, so it can change from one financial year to the next.
Interest is calculated monthly on your running balance but credited to your account once a year. Since the EPF interest rate can change, check the latest EPFO announcement when estimating your future EPF balance.
Can You Withdraw EPF Before Retirement?
Yes, EPF can be withdrawn before retirement in specific circumstances. In case of unemployment, 75% of the PF balance, including eligible employee and employer contributions and interest, can be withdrawn immediately. The remaining 25% can be withdrawn after one year, subject to the applicable rules. Premature final settlement is also subject to the conditions prescribed by EPFO.
Partial withdrawals, sometimes called advances, are also allowed for specified purposes such as medical treatment, marriage, education, and buying or building a home. EPFO has simplified the withdrawal rules, including a uniform minimum service requirement of 12 months for partial withdrawals, subject to the applicable conditions and limits.
Withdrawals after five years of continuous service are generally tax free, while withdrawals before completing the required service period may have tax implications.

FAQs
How is EPF maturity amount calculated?
The calculator projects your combined monthly EPF contribution, including your contribution and the portion of your employer's contribution that goes into EPF rather than EPS, using the applicable interest rate. For example, a combined contribution of Rs 5,950 a month over 25 years at 8.25% could grow to roughly Rs 59.4 lakh, compared with about Rs 17.9 lakh in total contributions.
What percentage of my salary goes into EPF?
You contribute 12% of your basic salary plus dearness allowance. Your employer also contributes 12%, but only part of the employer contribution reaches your EPF account because a portion is allocated to the Employee Pension Scheme, subject to the applicable wage ceiling and rules.
What is the current EPF interest rate?
EPFO has declared an interest rate of 8.25% for FY 2025-26. The rate is reviewed and set annually, so check EPFO's latest announcement rather than assuming the same rate will apply in future financial years.
Can I withdraw my EPF before retirement?
Yes. EPF can be accessed before retirement in specific circumstances. You may be able to withdraw the balance after a period of unemployment or make a partial withdrawal for purposes such as medical treatment, marriage, education, or a home purchase, subject to the applicable eligibility conditions and withdrawal limits.
